Though many of us may not realize the grave disparities that exist in our own communities, people face hunger in every county and congressional district in washington.

Democracy Teachingtimes Over 200,000 children in washington state are food insecure. it is our responsibility to make sure every child has enough to eat every day. The washington state community feeding teams provide an interdisciplinary approach to address feeding nutrition concerns for children with special health care needs in a comprehensive, cost effective manner. Since 2021, we feed wa and its partners have worked to eliminate hunger and advance equitable food access in washington. this report tells that story, while also looking at what lies ahead. The covid 19 pandemic led hundreds of thousands more washingtonians to visit food banks and pantries to feed themselves and their families. despite the higher demand, pandemic era federal programs helped increase access to food and lowered rates of food insecurity.

Hunger is most often caused by economic insecurity. many people in washington state are just one lay off, missed paycheck or medical emergency away from hunger. the covid 19 pandemic has increased food insecurity in our state. Hundreds of thousands of people in washington state face hunger and food insecurity every day. hunger affects people in every community in our state, disproportionately impacting children, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, working families and communities of color.
