Did One Last Backpacking Trip Woke Up To This I Think This Might Have It was a north face 3 season. we were plenty warm, but one of the poles came dislodged under the weight of the snow and one side came down on us. it was fine the rest of the night as we kept pounding the snow off periodically. gonna get a 4 season for future winter trips! what an awesome way to wake up. winter camping in the snow can be fun. Me and my wife decided some years ago in mid september to hit the high country for one last backpacking trip. just an overnight in to a lake about 5 or so miles in, 2800 or so feet of gain. nothing for us usually. except it was september, and her first time in inclement conditions.

Did One Last Backpacking Trip Woke Up To This I Think This Might Have Last summer i did my second ever solo backpack. a moderate hike in of about four miles, gorgeous camp above treeline, some sublime day hiking after setting up camp. i (very unwisely) shrugged off the slight chance of rain forecast, as i'd camped above treeline several times before in such conditions with no issues. Two years ago, i decided to go on my first solo trip. it was a quick two week getaway to colombia. those brief two weeks sparked a fire in me. as soon as i got back to the states, i bought my first big boy travel backpack and booked a flight to peru to meet up with some of the friends i had made in colombia. Went out for a nice long weekend adventure at dolly sods in west virginia. not sure why, but i woke up the second day of the trip and looked around and decided i didn't want to be out there and hiked back to the car and headed home. got home and slept for 14 hours. Sometimes you can avoid getting lost by staying put a while. i was camped in denali years ago, up high. we went to bed under partly cloudy skies and woke up in thick fog. we couldn’t see beyond 30 feet or so, and the mist occasionally closed in even more.

After logging hundreds of miles together, here are the most important life lessons i’ve walked away with. my dad took me on my first backpacking trip in 1997 when i was 7 and he was 45. And it all started with one backpacking trip. so if you’re considering tackling a long hike for the first time but are scared or unsure how to get started, don’t let that hesitation keep you from getting out there. by trying something new, you just might discover something you could fall in love with. but fair warning: you’ll never be the. *i lucked out and never had this happen to me. and people were shocked that i was able to backpack for 3 months in southeast asia and never once woke up to people having sex. it unfortunately is common. After 7 years of on and off backpacking around the world, it’s safe to say i learnt a lot. if i could go back and tell 18 year old hattie these things it would certainly save her a lot of time, mistakes and in some cases pain.
