I type a text layer above all the other layers, and i see nothing, but if i copy an existing text layer i can use that to create new text. this just started happening today, last week i had no issues when i opened the same file.

For those who cannot find the text engine in your type settings, don't get frustrated, the solution is simpler than you'd think. in the paragraph panel you'll find two buttons with an "arrow and a p" on them, switch between them to flip the typing order. The text is not showing up, its missing, yet its there in the effects tab and you can edit the text and it shows up, just not on the screen. i tried a brand new project, made a solid, added the text to that solid, same issue, no text showing up at all. Those are all red giant effects, so you need to reinstall red giant. you don't need to completely re install if you still have your older ae installed. go to c:\program files\adobe\adobe after effects (your version)\support files\plug ins and move the folders over to the new version.
