Yanmar 2gmf S Thermostat Gasket Sailboat Owners Forums Chase every leak as soon as it appears and i've had my share. the top pic is when i still had the vacuum breaker on the water discharge from the heat exchanger. the way my luck goes, it started to leak and sprayed drops of water down the starboard side of the engine. I need to change the coolant in our yanmar 2gm20f. would someone with the same model be willing to offer a step by step? the manual leaves a bit to be desired, such as the fact that more than the one drain shown in the manual appears to be present on the engine. many thanks.
Thermostat And Yanmar 2gm20f Sailboat Owners Forums If you were positive that you were running cooler then something has changed and woodster mentions a few of the things to check. yanmar engines are quite often set up with 71 degrees celsius (about 160) thermostats. running at 180 is not a problem. The heat switch on my yanmar 2gm20f threads into the thermostat housing and i understand it works by using thermal expansion material that makes the contact when it gets too hot setting off the over heat alarm. I looked at the diagrams in my manual. the yanmar arrangement looks very similar to the bukh, where the thermostat acts as a diverter valve, closing the bypass and opening the hot water flow out of the engine. i suspect that removing the thermostat would result in most of the coolant bypassing. The coolant interval is 500 hours which i might actually attain before selling the boat. i change the oil annually and do the transmission at the same time (same oil), and inspect the rest and service as needed.

This is what i did on my boat (w yanmar 2gm20f) and would work on any boat: i bought an inexpensive indoor outdoor thermometer at walmart. the outdoor sensor is a wire with a small pad on it that i snaked into the engine compartment and wired tightly to the thermostat housing. Has anyone found a cheaper alternative for the 2gm20 freshwater stat, i feel £30.00 is a bit much ! steve. This is my first winter with an inboard diesel and i'm looking for some advice. i live in toronto and expect to see some pretty cold weather. the engine has a closed circuit thermostat regulated cooling system with a heat exchanger for the hot water tank and a seperate seawater cooling system. Although this sounds relatively low, if you look at the size of the waterway in the thermostat housing, you will see the restriction. all this is about the cause of the problem, given the size of the lump, i suspect and hope that you have not done any damage to the engine by overheating.
