How To Decrypt A Wd Mybook Drive After Its Removed From The Enclosure I bought couple of 8 tb easystore drives that i've shucked. i also have a couple of 6 tb (wd blue) mybook drives that i've also shucked and would like to use them in the easystore enclosures as i would rather not have the encryption. The drive is held in place by four rubber bumpers to reduce vibration and noise, additionally you have to be a bit careful about the usb and power interface at the back. on the label side, carefully push up the front so the drive becomes angled in the shell, and the bumpers pop up from their groves. the rubber does require some force to move.

Using A Wd Mybook Drive In An Easystore Enclosure R Datahoarder If you put a drive with existing data in an easystore enclosure, your data isn't lost immediately but the drive probably won't be recognized or worse yet if your filesystem does mount you could end up with corruption. I would like to use a brand new wd external enclosure formerly an 8tb easystore with another brand’s 4 tb sata hard drive. with the other brand hd installed and connected to my mac with a 3.0 usb cable, i am not able to initialize this drive. I’m going to expand my set up with a new eight bay enclosure, which means i need four more drives. i currently have four that i shucked like five years ago. I bought a bunch of both drives, thinking of turning the mybooks into backup drives since they have 3 years of warranty on them but the hardware encryption would defeat the purpose of backups if the enclosure dies just when i need to access the data.

I have an old wd my book enclosure thats lying around, the drive inside it died and it was out of warranty. is there any way i can use the pcb, enclosure etc and pair it with a new internal drive to make a new external hdd. just replace the drive and see if it works. Is it safe to re use the easystore enclosures with other drives or are they pretty much useless without the original drives?. I will probably get a new 22 tb drive as that one is full, but again, just use it for backups. since i generally try to keep 3 copies of everything (the live one that i'm using on my computer, and 2 backups on different drives), i'm not as concerned if my backup drive fails. Has anyone tried using easystore pcbs in mybook shells? do they fit? i have a couple wd mybooks in use. while i never liked the idea that their enclosures might not allow me to use foreign drives inside of them i didn't care much since i didn't plan on shucking them.
