Prof Valeria Nicolosi
Prof Valeria Nicolosi I was the first researcher to use an electron microscope to probe the interaction of a biomolecule with a nanomaterial; succeeding in imaging a dna strand wrapping around a carbon nanotube (jacs 130, 12734). first demonstration of the liquid phase exfoliation of graphite to give graphene in large quantities (nature nano 3, 563). One of the core activities of the group is to use novel 2d materials for the development of more efficient energy storage devices, with particular emphasis on supercapacitors and batteries, manufactured both classically, and by 2d and 3d printing. As a process, exfoliation of layered solids has had a transformative effect on materials science and technology by opening up properties found in the two dimensional (2d) exfoliated forms, not necessarily seen in their bulk counterparts. Nicolosi’s research incorporates synthesis, exfoliation and characterization of 2d materials for various applications, particularly energy storage. she is particularly active in the characterization of materials using advanced electron microscopy techniques, such as aberration corrected tem, stem, eels and edx. [ 7 ].

In this work we present a cost effective spray deposition technology for the fabrication of both semi industrial scale and laboratory size film supercapacitor electrodes. based on graphene and other two dimensional nanomaterials. Over the past two decades, 2d materials have rapidly evolved into a diverse and expanding family of material platforms. many members of this materials class have demonstrated their potential to deliver transformative impact on fundamental research and technological applications across different fields. in this roadmap, we provide an overview of the key aspects of 2d material research and.
